Club Competitions

Throughout the year we have a number of internal and external competitions that our club members participate in. These competitions are judged by invited external judges offering valuable critique and advice so that our club members can apply and develop their photographic skills.

Monthly Competitions

Our monthly competitions have various themes.The themes for each monthly competition are chosen at the Annual General Meeting held in October.

Internal Annual Trophy Competitions

We have two annual trophy competitions for club members, The Sharland Cup and the Memorial trophy judged again by external judges. The winners of these competitions pick the theme for the following years competition.

There are also prizes for the best digital image and print image of the year.

External Competitions

The club members participate in a number of inter club battles with other local camera clubs.

We also enter the Stanley Chell and Adrian Webster Memorial Trophy competitions.

Stanley Chell

Stanley Chell Competition Rules

The Competition is open to clubs in the WPF and consists of each club entering four prints comprising monochrome, colour or both with only one original print per author.

There are five awards: 

  • The Stanley Chell Memorial Trophy Best Club entry of 4 prints

  • The Hans Hoyer Trophy Best Monochrome Print

  • The Glyn John Trophy Best Colour Print

  • The Glan and Mair Trophy Best Landscape Print

  •  Mounts should be no larger than 50cm x 40cm.

  •  Previous entries to this competition will not be accepted, and we would encourage work of recent origin. We encourage new work.

  • All Clubs in the Welsh Photographic Federation are invited to submit entries to this well established and popular print competition.

Adrian Webster Memorial Trophy Competition

The Competition is a replacement for our previously held Keith Ferrier Trophy and the entry will be up to 8 DPIs from each Club (the final number will be confirmed as soon as we know how many clubs are entered) and which must consist of the following:-
1. A minimum of 4 Photographers
2. A maximum of 2 images per Photographer
3. The competition is an Open add there are no restrictions on Colour/Monochrome or topic for the images
4. All entries to be of a maximum size of 1400 pixels (Horizontal) by 1050 pixels (Vertical)
5. Ensure all entries have the Title & Club Name on them
